President Isaac Herzog today, Tuesday, 26th of Tammuz, July 22, hosted Israel’s national amputee football team following their historic victory in the Four Nations Cup, in the tournament final held in the city of Pottes, Belgium.

The Israeli team, which brought great honor to the country, is made up of representatives from all sectors of Israeli society, including those injured in the October 7 attack and the Iron Swords War.

The President congratulated the players, saying:

“I am very happy and excited to meet you. I thank Tzach for initiating this meeting, because it tells a story of hope. When people go about their daily work, they do not know what the person walking beside them in the street has been through. Your ambitions, and your determination to persevere and succeed, are truly inspiring in my eyes. This is the power of sport, this is the power of football!

I saw you and was deeply impressed, and I want to wish you, on behalf of the State of Israel and the people of Israel, that you will bring us more trophies like this wonderful cup. And of course, that you will experience personal fulfillment – you who have overcome unimaginable pain and challenges. I am full of admiration and respect. I want you to pass on this message to so many of the injured who, unfortunately, were wounded in the war – strengthen them and prove to them that anything is possible.”

Tzach Shachror, 37, from Ramat Gan, founder and captain of Israel’s national amputee football team:

“We thank the President of the State for an emotional meeting, where we presented the activities of our sport, the cup we won in an international tournament in Europe a month ago, and received his blessing ahead of our next tournament in October. In the short time we have existed, we have been fortunate to achieve impressive results, including winning three European tournaments.

Recently, we also started a program for children with amputations, and very soon we will launch a league, along with scouting and recruiting days for new players. From here, we call on anyone who has suffered a limb injury – children, adults, women and men – if you love football, your place is with us.

We thank everyone who takes part and supports this amazing sport that sends the message – never give up on our dreams.”
